I am a current law student at the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University College of Law.
I grew up on the south side of St. Petersburg, and I saw that there were a lot of inequities in education and policy, and even how we’re handled in the criminal justice system. Ive found a profession that allows me to advocate on behalf of others that have been harmed unjustly.”
The American Bar Association reported last year that out of the 1.3 million lawyers in the United States, only five percent are Black. The lack of representation is due to the small number of Black lawyers in the country. As an African-American man, I’ve decided something needed to be done to fill that void.
I wrote a children’s book entitled “The Boy Who Went to Law School” to encourage Black children to become lawyers and published his book this year on Thanksgiving Day.
“What you introduce a child too early on shapes them and defines them for adulthood.
There are a ton of books on basketball and playing sports and being a singer and entertainer, but why don’t we have any books that really explain to us career-wise what a lawyer is?
This book has allowed me to inspire and mentor those who are less fortunate and have encountered similar struggles. In the future I plan to defend, create or change policy that may advance those being impacted by such.
